"Pull up a Rock" SOLD (Click here to view results on eBay)
This is a 9" x 12" oil on panel. It was somewhat inspired by a college classmate named Stephen Lyman, who fell to his death in Yosemite national Park, in 1996 while shooting reference for his paintings. His work is beyond amazing and looking back on it for the first time in ten years, I'm surprised how rendered it is. It's not photo-real, but a nice mix of realism in an illustrative style. My work isn't like his in any way except for the fact he painted campfires like nobody else. Light from a cabin window, sunsets, or even lanterns. You just can't beat a painting that has a light source that helps illuminate the painting itself. Click on the image for a larger view.

"Lost Dutchman's Trail" SOLD (Click here to view results on eBay)
This is a familiar spot that I've photographed a few times now. It's a scene of the Superstition Mountains just east of Phoenix, Arizona, and holds the secret of where the Lost Dutchman's Mine may be located. This scene of the mountain is actually from the Lost Dutchmans' State Park, that is just a little north and west of the face of these cliffs that overlook the community of Apache Junction Click on the image for a larger view.

"Low Clouds Over Sedona" SOLD (Click here to view results on eBay)
This painting is of one of the many Sedona cliff structures that surround that mountain community. It is an amazing place to visit for the colors and land masses, and stands out as a very different enviornment compared to other places in Arizona. There, you have running streams just about years round and thick forests of trees that grow everywhere except on the sides of these cliffs. Click on the image for a larger view.

"The Western Slope" SOLD (Click here to view results on eBay)
There are a couple of things that I now know for certain. Cameras will never match, no matter how well they are designed and built, the human eye in picking up detail and slight differences of color. The other thing I'm also certain of, your mind's eye will always imagine a more profound memory of a place you have visited. I remember looking at these scenes and thinking, it will be impossible to paint all the subtle colors that I'm looking at, and thinking how lucky I'm going to be that I'm sitting in a studio painting instead of out in the wind and changing light. I can't wait to try though because the colors my mind remembers are quite a bit different from these. Click on the image for a larger view.

"Cold in the Shadows" SOLD (Click here to view results on eBay)
This is a view I shot in December of '06. I was excited because two previous trips to the canyon had been total overcast days and although you can find some great scenes, artists and photographers usually look for nicely cloud covered days, but sunlight still breaking through. This day was a little too clear, with hardly a cloud in the sky. Click on the image for a larger view.

"Two Paths Taken" SOLD (Click here to view results on eBay)
This location has turned out to be a memorable place that we just happened to pass through one spring. It was early May of 2006 and we were on our way to Arizona for my daughter's graduation at ASU, when we decided to stop again in Jackson, Wyoming. It's still on top of my list for places to visit. This is a pasture stream that we came across coming north from Rock Springs and probably about 50 mles south of Jackson. The Teton Mountains are still in the distance and there are miles and miles of ranch land, all with fresh mountain water streams zigzgging across them. Click on the image for a larger view.

"Castle Rock Wonder SOLD (Click here to view results on eBay)
This was a location I had looked forward to seeing for a long time. I remember when I first heard of the place called Sedona, this rock formation was shown as it's local scenery icon. That was probably more than 40 years ago so finally seeing it in real life was really fun. I shot this scene when my wife and I spent our 30th anniversary there a little over a year ago in December of '06. Click on the image for a larger view.

"Big Gulp" SOLD (Click here to view results on eBay)
This is one of the Handsome Cab horses that I took shots of when I visted New York City's Central Park last summer. It was in the mid 90's all four days when we visited and you really felt sorry for these horses. They considering doing away with this tradition in New York. There are groups trying to save the century old tradition also. They first started carrriage service in 1869. Click on the image for a larger view.

"Four Sightseers" AVAILABLE for $100.00 plus $7.00 shipping
This is the Empire State Building painting I have been struggling with. The lighting, from which this group was being lit, was coming from the gift shop just inside the observation deck. There was also a huge group of decorative neon lights that were glowing from above, but that didn't seem to have an effect on these people. Click on the image for a larger view.

"Threatening to Jump" SOLD (Click here to view results on eBay)
I've been working on the Empire State Building piece, but it seemed so dark and moody to the point that I thought I needed to give that one a second thought. In place of that one I decided to finish this scene of the Grand Canyon. I like painting the canyon if only for the fact that I learn something new in how to paint it every time.
