Point Loma #2 Far Cliff (SOLD)

SOLD

This is the first painting I did the day I went plein air painting with Chris Mummert. It actually blew off the easel getting sand in the oil which Chris says adds authenticity. A really good plein air piece will even have a bug in the paint. There was quite a bit of brushing off and retouching back in the studio. My second piece that day has some scratches in the paint from accidentally brushing across weeds as we hiked back up the cliff.

Point Loma #2 Red Rock-SOLD-(click here to see auction results on eBay)

SOLD

This is from a third day of plein air painting in which I was able to paint with a great artist named Chris Mummert. He was introduced to me by a member of my son's church. Turned out to be a tremendous source of information and instruction...I think it shows. This was the second painting on that day. My first was nearly a washout after blowing away in the wind, but after bringing it back to the studio, it was actually alot of fun cleaning it up after it dried. For those that don't know, practically anything comes off an oil..but it has to be dry.

Two Lemons-SOLD-(click here to see auction results on eBay)

SOLD

This a painting I did while on vacation staying at my son's house in San Marcos. It's now available on eBay. I was hoping to leave this for my daughter-in-law katie, but I needed to break the monotony of beach scene after beach scene. I'll get another one done for her as soon as possible.

Bend in the River-SOLD- (click here to see auction results on eBay)

SOLD

This is a painting I did more than a year ago from photos I took while on a trip to California to see my Grandson Micah for the first time.

La Jolla #4 (AVAILABLE)

AVAILABLE ON THIS BLOG PAGE for minimum $100.00

This is another plein air piece I did with Dave Darrow in La Jolla. My sunburn was healing by now, but it was only because I was painting out of the shade most of the time.

La Jolla #2 (AVAILABLE)

AVAILABLE ON THIS BLOG PAGE for minimum $100.00

This is the second plein air that day. I was just getting to the 2nd dgree portion of my burn that day, and by the end of this painting I was close to the 3rd degree level. One of these days I'll learn. For those of you unfamiliar with Southern California, La Jolla has to be right up there with the rest of the country as far as how scenic the meeting of land and ocean can be. Great rock and cliff structure with excellent beaches to walk on.

La Jolla #1-SOLD-(click here to see auction results on eBay)

SOLD

This is the first of two plein air paintings I painted with a a good friend, David Darrow. We go back to the 70's when we went to Art Center in Pasadena. We had a great time laughing about old times, burning in the sun, and talking art technique. There's a link to Dave's blog in the right sidebar. He's active in the eBay auctions too, with alot of very nice figurative, still life and, now landscape paintings to offer. I'm still here in California for another 6 days, so I hope we get to get together and paint some more.

Monument Valley#12-SOLD-(click here to see auction results on eBay)

SOLD
This is one of my favorite places on earth. It remains somewhat undisturbed once you are in the park, but the entrance and the town outside the park is hard to be believed. I'll have a lot more paintings to produce from this photoshoot.

Flowerpot#11-SOLD-(click here to see auction results on eBay)

SOLD
I took a photo of this pot in 2003 when we were in Georgia, thinking back then that I wanted to try to get some paintings in some of the galleries down there, but I don't think I created more than two paintings total from the week and half long trip. Had alot of fun but didn'y get to inspired by what I saw.

Swammi's in the Sun#10 (AVAILABLE)

AVAILABLE ON THIS BLOG PAGE for minimum $100.00

I've been to Swammi's many times and have a lot of photos to choose from but of all those shots, there weren't any crashing waves on the beach. I guess I was lucky to have been there when there was beach to see and places to walk. For the west coast you need to be there in the evenings for a nice sunset over the water, but since I'm only 20 minutes from this beach right now, maybe I'll go down there in the morning and get some shots of the sun coming up over the cliffs.

Cigar#9-SOLD- (click here to see auction results on eBay)

SOLD

This is a cigar I painted on a 5"x7" panel that is being lit from the light of a television. I wanted a dark format so that the glow of the ashes and the trail of smoke could easily be seen.

Carlsbad Cliffs#8 (SOLD)

This is a painting created from photographs taken a few years ago. It's the closest beach from my kids home in San Marcos and I can remember running down there twice to try to catch the "golden hour" light. The first time I was not on time. By the time I found a parking spot the sun was below the horizon and the streetlights were on. I'm hoping to catch this beach in one of it's wilder moods some day with high surf and a more active sky.

Swammi's evening#7-SOLD-(click here to see auction results on eBay)

SOLD

This is a beach near our kids inCalifornia. I've done a lot of shooting there both day and evening. I think I've painted at least 5 other larger paintings of this beach over the years. I has some nice cliff formations and some nice rock formations reaching out into the water. I can't wait to catch it when the surf is really pounding. So far, as luck has had it, it's been calm.

Eclair and coffee#6-SOLD- (click here to see auction results on eBay)

SOLD

This is a 5"x7" oil on masonite panel. I was actually planning on painting a piece of apple pie for the next auction because my cherry pie failed to find a buyer. After the auction ended my wife said it was because hardly anyone likes cherry pie (right), but everyone loves apple pie with ice cream. We'll never know now, because the local pie shop was out of apple pies and what they had plenty of was Eclairs. I don't know if it was my stomach telling me to "just buy it", or my mind saying, "this needs to be captured in oil!"
