Pretzels near the Bridge SOLD (Click here to view results on eBay)

I knew before I took the trip to New York that I was going to photograph as many of the street vendors as possible, but besides these I wished I would have shot more of the small delis that are on nearly half the city blocks on Manhattan. They all have thier own specialties and if you were a New Yorker working in the city, it would take at least a month to try all the fast foods available. Click on the image for a larger view.

Lady Liberty SOLD (Click here to view results on eBay)

In our discussion group the past few weeks, we have been talking about painting just for ourselves. This is one I painted just for the pleasure. From my earliest memories as a kid I remember seeing photos and TV programs that talked about this statue. When I finally saw it, I wasn't dissapointed except to find out that you had to reserve a ticket a month in advance to climb up into the structure. It was a whirlwind tour of New York anyway, and we were on our way back up to midtown Manhattan to meet my Rep, who we eventually met, 2 hours late. Click on the image for a larger view.

Brooklyn Evening SOLD (Click here to view results on eBay)

here's my second painting of the Brooklyn Bridge. I wished I had more angles and compositioned planned for this subject. For over a century now artists have been making her a centerpiece in thier scenes of New York, sometimes as just a blue hazey shape towering over the streets below. A Quick Read SOLD (Click here to view results on eBay)

I was lucky to get this shot before this lady noticed I may be adding her to my shot. I would pretend to take pictures in other directions if I saw them looking, and as soon as they realized I was a harmless tourist, they would go back to whatever they were doing and I would try to quickly get my shot. I didn't have time to ask them and normally I would, but if I didn't hurry I was going to be lost in the park, because my son Jobey and Matt weren't waiting. Click on the image for a larger view.

Old Paint SOLD (Click here to view results on eBay)

Here's a painting of another mode of transportation when in New York. We didn't ride any, but they are very reasonable. $25 for a twenty minute ride, but I would have to admit I would feel silly riding in one. My wife Kerry and I rode in one in Chicago. I agreed to that one because it was raining, and thiers were old fashioned covered cabs. Turned out to be alot of fun. Our horses name back then was Sid. That still cracks me up. I didn't catch this ones name. Click on the image for a larger view.

The Express SOLD (Click here to view results on eBay)

I'm back to my New York stash of photographs to paint from and I'm finally getting into the subway batch. I have some great shots that are full of people, but I didn't have as much time to paint tonight before a 10 pm posting, so I picked a simpler layout. I can still feel the heat. It was over 90 degrees that week, on the street, but down here, it had to be 110. Luckily, the trains are air conditioned. Click on the image for a larger view.

Lakeview Hike SOLD (Click here to view results on eBay)

getting back to the country, I decided to pick a scene from Jackson Wyoming again. There's something about the mystery of not knowing what's around the next curve of the path that keeps me wanting to try to evoke that feeling. Great memories for me from that trip because some of the feelings were fear because of all the Grizzly talk that week. A moher and her cubs were being cloesly watched by the rangers that week. I guess Grizzlies are pretty rare for Jackson. Click on the image for a larger view.

Corner of the Park SOLD (Click here to view results on eBay)

This is a scene from Central Park with the view of a single apartment skyscraper in the distance. For as busy as the city's streets were, it was easy to find a quiet corner with no one else in sight. Click on the image for a larger view.

Duck Crossing SOLD (Click here to view results on eBay)

This is one of the first scenes I saw as I walked into Central Park for the first time. It was near the Bow Bridge and right around the corner is the Bethesda Fountain that I think I'm going to paint next. There's at least 20 compositions in that little area alone including street musicians and lilly ponds. Click on the image for a larger view.

Manhattan Side of the Brooklyn SOLD (Click here to view results on eBay)

I had one shot to get some nice light on this famous bridge. My feet were aching so that was another excuse to just sit down and just admire it. By the time I got some feeling back in my toes, the sun broke through the cloud layer to give me a slight yellow glow on the base and even a shadow from one of the skyscrapers from lower Manhattan. Library Lion SOLD (Click here to view results on eBay)

This is a scene of one of the lions in the front of the new York City Public Library. It is an amazing building outside with other sculptures dedicated to knowledge and freedom, but to really see something special, you have to check out the inside. It's not the number of books, but the marble staircases, chandeliers, and hand carved woodwork that makes you think it must have cost a billion dollars to build. Path to the Peak SOLD (Click here to view results on eBay)

Here's a view of the trail that leads up along Jenny Lake in Jackson, Wyoming to Hidden Falls, which is in the slopes below the Teton peaks. Click on the image for a larger view.

Apple Orchard AVAILABLE ON THIS BLOG $100)

This is a scene of one of our Midwestern apple orchards. I shot this reference one evening while playing golf in Omaha, Nebraska, at the Indian Creek Golf Course near Elkhorn. Click on the image for a larger view.

Stepping Out SOLD (Click here to view results on eBay)

Here's a painting that I did froma shot that I was lucky to get. It was around midnight, and we were on our way back from the East Village. It's an older part of the city with alot of apartment buildings instead of store fronts. I had to shoot fast because Jobe and Matt weren't waiting, and a few times when I couldn't see them, I had to guess that they had jumped down into a subway entrance. Cloud Cover SOLD (Click here to view results on eBay)

I swear I will never get tired of painting the Southwest. The shapes and colors are so different from anything else you see anywhere in the states. Click on the image for a larger view.

Statue Wearing High Heels SOLD (Click here to view results on eBay)

This is a scene from Central Park. The two figures just to the right of the statue is my son Jobey and his friend Matt. It was a scene I had to get used to for three days as I was always trying to catch up with them. I just about used my cell phone to find them a few times.
The title is actually from an old CCR song called "Looking out my Back Door". I thought it made sense because I didn't know who this statue was dedicated to, but he did have old fashioned high-heeled shoes. Click on the image for a larger view.
