Dad 2006 (not for sale)

This is a portrait I did of my Dad 2 or 3 months ago. I gave it to my mom for Mother's day. I was really proud of this because of how I handled it so loosely. To my eye, there is alot of detail here, because the arms, T-shirt, and coveralls look exactlly like they were. Any more rendering of the surfaces would have ruined it. I love this painting...it has a lot of presence. I also like the handling of the paint. Very good job.

Thanks Luis.
It is at the top of my list for the way I was able to find the minimum amount of brushwork to reveal what the subject looked like. Looking back on this one, I felt like it was a realistic as I ever want to get without a heavy handed rendered look. If you knew my Dad you would like the painting even more. This was painted from a photo that I took of him last May and the pose I captured couldn't have been more typical.

I like the realism of this paining from the off-kilter cap to the dirty plate. The facial expression is wonderful
