I'm going to post at least two paintings a week...minimum. Most will be 5"x 7" to keep things small, but like the first one...they will vary. I'll be including a link to Ebay to bid on these. Any that don't sell will be designated on this blog, and can be purchased for the minimum of $100.00
SOLD This is a stream I shot when I visisted Chris Hopkins in 2005. Chris had always done great deep water, and I shot as much of the stuff as I could to try to get some great reference to paint one day. Click on the image for a larger view.
I like this one a lot. I am a sucker for reflections. When you look at the larger image you can see that it is more painterly than I expected. Did you apply the paint thicker than in your ultra real still life's?
James, I don't think I got the paint any thicker than any of my other paintings. I manage to get enough paint applied so that I tend to push it around until I either have it as opaque as I want, or as thin as I want. I think that is why my work will always have that sketchy look until I can finally add enough paint to give certain elements that sculpted look. I just about got there with the white log...but I spread it out and rendered.
Beautiful painting. Very relaxing, I could feel the water moving. I could sit and look at this for a very long time.
ReplyDeleteThat water has a Frederic Edwin Church feel
