Apple pie has always been one of my favorite subjects. I dug this shot out of some old photos to try this one again. My intention was to get extra thick and expressive with the paint and to look at this piece as a painting more than an accurate rendering of a piece of pie. I think I might go back into it again before long and add something else to it. Click on the image for a larger view.
This painting was done from a shot I took at a golfcourse in Ponca, Nebraska. Nice little nine hole course that was well manicured. These logs had been cut down at some point with a chainsaw and piles up off to the side of a fairway. I liked the sunlight coming through the trees and the colors of the cut logs. I've always like Julian Merrow-Smith's painting technique, especially how he captured peaches. He always had the dusty red and purple shades that just feels like the fuzz it represents. He's a plein air painter living in Provence, France. He's a daily painter with a quick direct way of painting that more and more reminds me of a Cezanne in his early days, before he went semi cubist. Anyway, he's a great inspiration for landscapes and still lifes, and if I knew how to insert a hyperlink, you would see what I mean. Click on the image for a lrger view.

Here's another scene from our day at Monument valley. I think I'm getting closer to the dramatic colors of the mid-day sun that we saw that day. The colors of the desert new cease to amaze me. You just about can't find rich enough hues to correctly depict the scenes. Click on the image to see a larger view.
This is a painting of one of Uni's big cheese burgers from here resturant and bar in Dixon Nebraska. Dixon is a quiet little town in the northeast corner of Nebraska where my wife lived when she was a little girl. Her Dad grew up there and was in the bee/honey business there with his father and brother. They don't make a better burger anywhere. Click on the image for a larger view.
Here's a scene I shot while we were waiting for some air races to end at Monument Valley. Red Bull had sponsored some races the day we rolled in and we had hurried away from Moab 2 hours earlier to get there before noon to shoot some scenes. Turns out we finally got out there around 2 pm and got some pretty good afternoon shots. Heavy air and clouds for a change. Click on the image for a largwr view.
